In this introductory survey course we will study the main historical forces that have shaped African lives since 1945 through case studies of Ghana and Nigeria. Tracing the history of these countries, we will examine the major epochs of colonialism, decolonisation and post-colonial independence, combining chronological and conceptual approaches.
