This course explores the interface of psychiatry and the law in terms of the current literature, as well as from legal and clinical perspectives of how these disciplines interact in courtroom settings. It will become evident that medical and legal perspectives on mental illness do not always coincide; yet mental health professionals and legal professionals have to work together to produce outcomes that are in the best interests of the accused, and society at large.
