This course introduces students to some of the key debates in contemporary film theory from the 1970s to the present. It enables students to view and study a variety of filmmaking practices - including political cinemas, cult film, experimental film and video, as well as mainstream cinemas - and looks at some of the diverse ways that film has been understood and debated by both filmmakers and film theorists.
